BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Former “Let’s Make a Deal” host Monty Hall has died. He was 96.

Sharon Hall says her father died Saturday morning of heart failure at his home in Beverly Hills, California.

Hall co-created “Let’s Make a Deal,” which debuted on NBC in 1963 and became a TV staple for decades.

Contestants chosen from the studio audience wore outlandish costumes to attract Hall’s attention. The game involved swapping prize items for others hidden behind doors, curtains or in boxes, leading to the famous question: Do you want Door No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3?”

His daughter says Hall, who was born in Canada, enjoyed his fame and never turned down an autograph or a chance to use his name to help others.

She estimates he raised nearly $1 billion for charity over his lifetime.

ALOHA (2015) movie review

Splatter: on FILM

920x920I’ve always wondered what it would be like to see some of my favorite actors as children. The kindergarten effect: emotional roller coasters, needing snacks and naps, afraid of odd things, dancing to whatever music plays, having pointless sleepovers, wrecking stuff at will, yelling and calling names, friending and unfriending, saying the darn’dest things.

ALOHA (2015) fulfilled that birthday wish. What a surprise to sit in stunned awe at the total lack of continuity – as if they filmed it all backwards as a joke and forgot to fix it, as if they spliced in a few decent shots of great actors but thought it would be quirky to have them speak in total nonsense or silence (sometimes with subtitles), or as if they tried to make another film…how about Ernest Goes to Hawaii…minus Ernest.

It’s that bad.emma-stone-ewwSave yourself. Avoid. See anything but this. A great review that I…

Liv Tyler – Hottest Rockstar daughters

We figured we might as well put perhaps the most famous rockstar daughter on our list. So here’s Liv Tyler, daughter of Aerosmith‘s own Steven Tyler (though she was unaware of it until the age of 8), a flawlessly gorgeous and well-established actress.
She’s not eye candy, thrown a role or two because of her famous dad. No, she’s the type that stars in big films that go on to become franchises, including Lord of the Rings ( parts 1, 2 AND 3), Armageddon, and even the Incredible Hulk.

“These young people are homeless through no fault of their own”

Miley Cyrus has written a letter to Andrew Cuomo asking the New York governor to include $4.75 million in funding for homeless youth in the state’s budget.

The singer, whose Happy Hippie Foundation advocates for young people without homes, asked the governor and the leaders of the state’s assembly and senate to back a request by a state senator to allocate the money for 1,000 new beds, which she says are badly needed.

“Between 2009 and 2012,” Cyrus writes, “the number of kids turned away from homeless youth shelters in New York grew from 570 to more than 5,000.”

Cyrus posted the letter on Instagram for fans to read:

Speaking up so homeless youth in NY can have a place to sleep!!! #makingchange #HappyHippies @happyhippiefdn

TIME

The Sun, the moon, and Google are celebrating the official start of spring — this year’s vernal equinox on March 20 will include a solar eclipse, a supermoon and a stop-animation Google Doodle.

As TIME wrote last year, the vernal equinox is when “earth’s axis is angled such that the world gets an equal amount of daylight and night,” signaling the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

[newsletter-the-brief]

This year’s spring begins with a celestial bang. Most of Europe and parts of northern Africa and Asia will be treated with a partial solar eclipse and the few inhabitants of the Danish Faroe Islands and Norway’s Svalbard archipelago will be lucky enough to witness a total eclipse. Or, you can watch a streaming broadcast here.

In parts of Europe, Google is adding an animated eclipse to their Doodle.

Fans hoping for a grandiose stargazing experience will be disappointed…
