Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin are racing in the same event for the first time in more than two years on Thursday, live on NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra.
The Olympic champions are competing in the World Championships giant slalom in Beaver Creek, Colo., but neither was close to medal position after the first of two runs Thursday morning.
Shiffrin was tied for 13th, 1.72 seconds behind the leader. Vonn, in her first giant slalom in more than two years, was 27th, 2.67 seconds back.
That leader is Austrian Anna Fenninger, who won silver in the giant slalom at the Sochi Olympics and bronze at the 2013 World Championships. Fenninger captured super-G gold at these World Championships last week.
Fenninger goes into the afternoon .81 ahead of countrywoman Michaela Kirchgasser and .9 ahead of Swede Jessica Lindell-Vikarby.
